Crafted Echoes: The Himalayan Odyssey of House of Hindee

Under the Himalayan sky, where whispers of tradition sway with the mountain breeze, a unique species wrapped in creativity is blossoming. Anhad Bhullar Malhotra, an adventurer in the realm of entrepreneurship, is weaving a narrative that began far from the mystic valleys of Himachal Pradesh with her brand House of Hindee.

The tale commenced amidst the cobbled streets of Scotland, where Anhad, with an insatiable appetite for knowledge, dived into the world of international business while developing a love for the textile, Tweed. Yet, it wasn't until the cobalt skies of Italy, adorned with the secrets of luxury and lifestyle, that her heart resonated with the allure of preserving Indian roots. The desire to create a brand rooted in sustainability, yet draped in the elegance of fashion, became a flame that flickered with every step she took.

Anhad's return to India in 2017 marked the beginning of a profound journey. The rustic landscapes of Himachal Pradesh, with its untold tales and forgotten crafts, called out to her. A collaboration with her father became the genesis of House of Hindee — a sanctuary where tradition metamorphosed into contemporary elegance.

The hills echoed with the laughter of Gaddi women, whose hands had once known only the chores of home. Anhad, with a vision as vast as the mountains, transformed their skills in spinning and weaving the indigenous Gaddi wool into an opportunity for livelihood. House of Hindee is a story of empowerment and of rebellion against the fading echoes of tradition.

The looms in Himachal Pradesh, once silent witnesses to the dwindling art of hand-spun and hand-woven yardage, now hummed with life. Anhad's commitment to sustainability bore fruit in Hindee Tweed — an ethically crafted Himalayan tweed, a memoir of the hands that refused to let tradition slip through the fingers of time.

As seasons passed, House of Hindee became not just a brand but a beacon of hope for a community tucked away in the folds of the mountains. The narrative reached beyond borders, drawing the world's gaze to the fading artistry of a tribe determined to preserve its roots.

Then emerged a chapter unlike any other — "Romancing the Uniform." A collaboration with Manjeet Bullar birthed a collection that transcended fashion; it was a bold tale of military aesthetics etched onto the canvas of Hindee Tweed. The jackets, displayed in the grandeur of Bikaner House in New Delhi, told stories of wars and victories, stitched with the hands of artisans.

Seen above is the curated capsule collection of military-inspired jackets that were showcased at the Exhibit, Khatamband, held in Bikaner House New Delhi. Each jacket was crafted using authentic Hindee Tweed along with elements of original vintage World War 1 and 2 medals and ribbons. Unique Burma teak wood and semi-precious stone medals were hand-crafted to showcase the Army elements. The belts are all handmade in Burma teak buckles along with hand-crafted brass buttons.

In a poetic collaboration with the students of AAFT, Noida, House of Hindee unfolded another chapter — a colossal handwoven shawl. The loom, a storyteller, wove together the narratives of Gaddi tribal women, creating a masterpiece that stretched beyond 60 meters.

House of Hindee's story is not confined to the walls of a brand; it's an odyssey of sustainability and heritage, where every stitch is a rebellion against time's eroding touch. Anhad Bhullar Malhotra, the weaver of dreams, ensures that the hands that spun the yarns of tradition continued to dance across the loom of life.
