What comes to your mind when you hear the word “handloom”?

An ancient loom in a dusty corner sitting there for years? Or maybe something your grandma would wear? Well, you are not alone. For people nowadays, handloom feels like something that is stuck in the past.

But what if we tell you that someone out there is changing this misconception. A brilliant couple from West Bengal is flipping the original script. Sequin yarns and apparels made for boardrooms and brunches, does sound exciting, doesnt it?

This Kriti edition, we are spotlighting brands and creators who are not just modernising the look of handloom but also shifted how we think about it altogether.

From redefining gendered garments like the dhoti to reimagining cotton for a 9-to-5 wardrobe, these are people who are designing with the loom, not around it.
